Granulate drier has a helical, heatable conveyor (2) arranged concentrically about a chute-like heater (6). Drying polyester granulate. Polyester granulate can be crystalised in a thin layer and then dried without the use of anti-agglomerate agents such as talcum powder. Drier has a fixed heater (6) about which is journalled for rotation a hollow support (9) which forms an annular chamber (5) supplied with hot air from supply line (4). Support (9) which is driven carries the helical conveyor (2) on which the amorphous polyester material is dried in thin layers by the hot air passing into the conveyor space through openings (11) in the support. Alternatively the air may be heated by electrical heaters. Crystalline polyester is forced into the chute (6) in which it is dried by hot air as it moves downwardly towards the outlet (8).
