Energy conserving vehicle engine - is switched-off when stopped and restarted by flywheel, with accessories driven by small secondary engine

The motor vehicle combustion engine (2) is uncoupled from the drive wheels (6) and stopped when it is not driving them, e.g. during braking or stops at traffic lights. A flywheel (3) is un-coupled (4, 5) and continues to run for subsequent use to re-start the engine. A further engine (7) with considerably lower power output is provided to power the accessory equipment (8-10) e.g. the power steering unit (9), brake servo and alternator (10), when the main engine is switched off. The secondary engine may also drive the flywheel. The ancillaries (8-10) may be driven (14) by the engine (2) via a freewheel coupling (15) when the engine (2) runs.
