A horizontan lengthways wire, with an end pair of pieces of cross wire to grip a panel end, is incorporated in the space-retainer for formwork panels used in concrete wall construction. These pieces protrude downwards and upwards. The outside piece of cross wire (2) in each pair is sited asymmetrically to the lengthways wire (1), and its downward-facing part is longer than the upward-facing one. On the inner piece (3) in the pair the relative lengths are pref. reversed. A longer outside retention system is needed at the bottom edge of the panel where the lateral pressure is greatest when concrete is heaped into the lost formwork, while application of the top panel is also facilitated.
