Vinyl chloride suspension or bulk polymerisation initiator compsn. - contg. azo cpd., peroxy-di:carbonate, peroxy-ester and/or di:acyl peroxide and alcohol

Initiator compsn. for vinyl chloride suspension- or bulk polymerisation consists of (1) 0.005-0.25 wt.%, w.r.t. monomer, of a free radical-generating azo cpd., peroxy dicarbonate, alpha-branched peroxyesters and/or diacyl peroxide initiator, (I) and (2) 0.5-35 wt%, w.r.t. (I), of 18-20C alkyl- or aralkyl alcohol (II). (II)-addn. accelerates polymerisation velocity. E.g. 30% decan-l-ol addn. to tert. Bu peroxyneodecanate used as (I) lowered time before pressure fall in vinyl chloride suspension polymerisation from 300- to 210 min. The polymers have a narrower particle size distribution. Soiling of stirrer and reactor is reduced.
