The ribbed casing consists of a steel sheet folded and curved to form a cylindrical casing with cooling ribs (2) projecting radially outwards. Each cooling rib extends on the outside of the casing parallel to the axis. The two compressed sides of each rib are joined at their bottoms by a longitudinal weld. Alternatively adhesive (4) may be introduced between the sides to hold them together. Joining the sides of each rib in this way strengthens the casing. The ends of the casing have suitable methods for holding the bearing plates of the machine. The casing saves material, reduces weight and reduces the amount of production work.
