MUCCIARDIABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA melt dispersible, floatable, solid additive formolten metal comprises an elongated body of the additivewith a band or bands of a thermal barrier providing materialtherearound which is preferably heat decomposable and gasevolving at the temperature of the molten metal. When theadditive is dropped or released and urged forcibly into themolten metal the formation of a solid casing of themolten metal on the body at the position of the band or bandsis retarded so that melted additive is released at the positionof the band or bands and the body separates into discreteparts thereby rapidly releasing the additive into the moltenmetal.
