Safety valve for medical perfusion system - protects patient from air bubbles in fluid and from over pressure

The safety valve is used with a perfusion system in which fluid from a reservoir is delivered by a peristaltic pump to the syringe which is inserted in the patient. The safety valve consists of a slab of glass reinforced nylon with three holes in its edges for connecting to the pipes. These holes communicate with holes perpendicular to the main surface which is covered with a membrane of silicon rubber. The membrane ensures laminar flow between the inlet and outlet so that no air bubbles can reach the outlet. The column of fluid in the tube acts as a pressure limiting devide and also allows air bubbles to return to the reservoir.
