Ophthalmological surgical instrument for myopia - fits over eyeball and is adjusted to permit modification of diameter of eyeball

The ophthalmological instrument is used surgically to palliate or cure the effects of myopia. It comprises two halves of a ring (1) which are passed through the muscles (10) of the eyeball (11) and fitted together using socket joints. This ring has two diametrically opposite arms (3, 4), each terminating in a small pad (6) at the end of an inwardly facing cranked portion (5). The pads contact the entero-posterior surface (12) of the eyeball and the arms are adjusted using nuts or similar on the threaded ends of the arms. This modifies the entero-posterior diameter to correct vision and the conjunctive tissues are permanently sutured.
