Preserving crops against microorganisms - using compsn. contg. propionic acid, inorganic acid and opt. water (NL 23.1.78)

Compsn. contg. by wt. =50 (=60) % propionic acid, 5-50 (10-35)% HCl, H2SO4 and/or H3PO4 and opt 0-40 (5-30)% water, is used for preserving crops and animal feedstuffs esp. prods. having a high moisture content. Crops are pref. treated with 0.1-5 wt.% of liquid compsns. Compsns may be applied before during or after the harvest. Compsns. prevent and inhibit growth of microorganisms. Inorganic acids act synergetically with propionic acid.
