1-Methyl 2-(phenyl oxymethyl) 5-nitro imidazoles - for control of protozoa, helminths and ectoparasites

New 1-methyl-2-(phenyl-oxymethyl)-5-nitro-imidazoles of formula (I) and their salts with physiologically compatible acids. (where R1-3 are H or 1-4C alkyl, or R1-C-N-R2 forms a pyrrolidine piperidine or hexamethyleneimine ring; or -NR2R3 forms a pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine or thiomorpholine ring), can be used to treat protozoon infestations in man and animals caused, e.g., by Trichomonas vaginalis and Entamoeba histolytica. They are also anthelmintics and act against ectoparasites e.g. ticks. (I) can be given orally or topically in conventional pharmaceutical prepns. A suitable oral dose is 10-750 mg.
