Expansion joint comprises an elongated main portion of rectangular cross-section. The main portion has a central homogeneous bridging portion (22) integral with a pair of lateral side limbs (1, 2) which are divided from the bridging portion by longitudinally extending voids (3) and/or cavities (5) which permit lateral expansion or contraction of the briding portion to accommodate relative displacement of the roadway sections. Each limb is integral with a lateral flange (7) for fixing the joint to the roadway section and for forming a seal.
