A rotary pump or motor has two rotors (22a, 22b) mounted on a common shaft (26). The rotors have the form of cylindrical wedges with the oblique faces of the rotors parallel to each other. The rotors run inside a cylindrical casing (10) with a double central wall (16) which has conical faces. A tube (52) passes through a hole in the central wall (16) and has oblique end faces which abut against the oblique faces of the rotors. As the rotors rotate, the annular space on one side of the tube (52) expands whilst the other space contracts so that a fluid can be drawn in on one side and expelled on the other side.
