The aneroid manometer is used in a medical oscillometer to record cardiac pressure pulses to determine the state of the arteries and particularly the elasticity of the artery walls. Pneumatic pulses are applied via a tube (2) to an aneroid membrane (1). A bar (3) attached to the casing carries a platform (4) on which a pivot (5) supports the shaft (6) for a pointer (7). A pulley attached to the membrane transmits movement of the membrane via a pivoting block (10) to the pointer shaft. This causes its movement over a graduated scale (21).
