Feed additive for animals and poultry - contains perchlorate salt on porous carrier, for improving wt. gain and feed utilisation

Compsn. for improved feeding of animals and poultry contains a perchlorate of formula X(ClO4)n, (I) (where X is alkali or alkaline earth metal or NH4; n is the valency of X) on an inert, orally acceptable carrier. Pref. the ClO4-ion content is 5-50, (15-35) wt.% and pref. (I) are Mg and/or Ca perchlorate. The carrier may be inorganic, esp. perlite, silica gel or diatomaceous earth, or organic, esp. sawdust of grass meal. The compsn. may also contain NaCl or an alkaline earth chloride. Compsns. improve wt. gain and feed utilisation and in sheep increase wool yields. Compsns. are practically non-toxic and prod. no side effects, and the addn. of a carrier reduces the explosion hazard associated with (I). This is further reduced by incorporation of the NaCl or alkaline earth chloride.
