The electronic thermometer is based on a wheatstone bridge formation. Two of the branches have fixed resistances and the other two comprise a potentiometer and a thermocouple respectively. The potentiometer establishes the equilibrium position of the bridge as indicated by an LED, and the corresponding temperature in degrees Centigrade is read off a graduated scale. The probe housing the thermocouple is sterilised in a container filled with a disinfectant and divided into several cells.
