A Hall effect barrier comprises a U-shaped breech (1) with feet (ie) which contain mounting holes (1f). These permit mounting in any position. A permanent magnet (2) and a Hall effect generator (3) are mounted facing one another in the same plane on the arms (1a, 1b) of the breech. The breech is closed in a plastic support (5) and a gap between the legs allows passage of a screen with a window to interrupt the magnetic field. The connections are suitably arranged to suit the installation. This assembly reduces leakage of the field due to use of spacer assemblies and it improves switching precision to allow its use in a motor vehicle ignition system.
