摘要
Inorganic fibres are made from fibres with an aspect ratio 103-106 and 7% shot content which are put through a refiner contg. =1 rotating plate and another fixed plate spaced from the rotating plate a fixed distance which is less than the lengths of a major proportion of the fibres and greater than the size of the shot. The refined fibres are then passed through a separator. The resulting short fibres are reacted with a silane of formula RSi(OH)3 (where R is aminoalkylene, aminoalkylene-aminoalkylene, vinyl, acryloxy, methacryloxy, epoxy-cyclohexylalkylene, glycidoxyalkylene or mercaptoalkylene). The fibres (e.g. glass or mineral wool) are useful as reinforcing agents for plastics. The silane treatment of the fibres improves the fibre-plastics chemical bonding and therefore gives greater retention of physical strength.
