Fibrous sheet and transparent plastic film laminate - contg. iridescent substance to give optical effects, e.g. wood vein appearance

A laminate having partic. optical effects and useful in the furniture industry comprises a fibrous web covered with a transparent protective film, the improvement being the incorporation of an iridescent substance (I) in the laminate, pref. on the surface of the fibrous web. A mottled appearance is obtd. The process may be used to produce a relief effect closing resembling wood by selective coating of the web with a printing ink contg. the iridescent substance (I) to form wood veins. (I) is pref. mother-of-pearl extracts, a Pb salt or mica, the latter being opt. coated with a metal oxide (pref. Tio2). The fibrous web is pref. paper.
