A composite sheet for the decorative covering of substrates comprises a base film of colored thermoplastic material and a transparent thermoplastic film which is printed with a pattern on the base film side and printed on the other side with a complementary pattern formed by two transparent protective varnishes, one gloss and one matt. A composite sheet of thermoplastic material for the decorative covering of substrates in general comprises a base film (20) of colored thermoplastic material and a film (4) of transparent thermoplastic material printed with the required pattern (8) on the side facing the base film (20) and printed on the other side with two different transparent protective varnishes, one (12) forming a gloss coating and the other (16) forming a matt coating, in exact register with the pattern (8) so as to cover the parts of the surface complementary to the pattern. An independent claim is also included for a method for the production of decorative composite sheet by (i) continuously printing the required pattern on one side of a transparent thermoplastic film; (ii) continuously printing the complementary pattern on the other side of this film with two varnishes as above; and (iii) combining this printed film with the colored base film.
