The differential numeric coding and decoding predictor allows reduction of the number of binary elements that need to be transmitted especially when dealing with sinusoidal signals. The prediction circuits are utilised, one providing a predict signal xn-1=2xa second order 1 near circuit providing a predict signal =xn+1=2x The signal to be coded is initially fed to a subtraction unit which is connected to a quantiser and then to one input of an addition unit via a delay circuit. This then feeds the prediction circuit. A further two delays of one sampling period are connected between the addition circuit output and the predictor circuit control and input terminals.
