The generating plant comprises a combustion chamber in which wood sandust is fed on to a horizontal hot plate from which ash is dropped into a disposal pit. A smoke extn. pipe carries smoke from the combustion chamber to an induction fan duct. The inlet end of the extn. pipe is row located in the upper region of the chamber, remote from the hot plate. From its inlet end, the extn. pipe pref. extends vertically downwards through the centre of the hot plate and then onwards to the induction duct. The inlet to the pipe is pref. via a number of small orifices. The inlet may also or alternately be fitted with a hot-type cover and/or flow baffles. The smoke is purified before reaching the induction fan. The fan and kilns require less cleaning. Dust and impurities do not reach the prod. which is of improved quality.
