Earthing device for overheated HV support - prevents worker falling by attaching him to cable hooked over support

The earthing device consists of a hook (5) attached to the end of a telescopic arm (11) held by a first worker. The hook has a locking bar (7) that prevents it coming free from the support (2) over which it is hooked and which supports the insulators holding the h.v. conductor. A conducting cable (6) joins the hook to the ground. The second worker who ascends the mast is attached to this cable by a conventional slide that permits him to ascend but prevents him from falling. The locking bar pivots (7a) to the hook and project at its rear through a hole in a spring (8, 9). The spring holds the bar closed and is released by a plunger (11) moving axially inside the tube (10) that encloses the spring.
