The trailer has a transverse hopper for the chippings, with inclined front and back walls and a bottom exit whose size can be varied by the moving plate. The smooth surfaced rotating drum is slightly in front of the exit and distributes the chippings onto the vibrating apron which is inclined towards the back at a variable pitch. The apron vibrates at 50 to 1500 oscillations per minute due to the eccentric shaft. The number of oscillations, speed of rotation of drum and pitch of apron are calculated to produce a measured and even rate of spread of chippings on the road.
