Forming complex coloured patterns on metal surfaces - by forming embossed outline on soft metal sheet, backing, covering with fine metal film and applying colour to relief portions

Method of forming an article, the outer metallic surface of which bears a coloured pattern, comprises (a) chasing the pattern on the back of s sheet of soft metal by embossing the contours of the pattern so ast o dilimit regions in relief in place of the soft metal; (b) firming the back of the soft metal sheet with a support, e.g. by gluing; (c) covering the soft metal sheet with fine film of surface metal and (d) applying colours onto the surface metal film inside part or all of the relief regions. The colours may be in the form of paints (esp. acrylovinyl) and or enamels, utilising a varnish solvent, after first coating the metal with e.g. gum-lacquer. A novel art form is produced. Complicated coloured patterns can be made without loss of metal, esp. precious metal by machining, etc.
