Reagent for alcohol breath-test comprises a soln. of potassium chromate and sulphuric acid, opt. contg. metal salts or a metal to modify the colourimetric reaction. Reagent for determination of the quantity of alcohol present in the breath, which changes colour from yellow or orange (depending on its concn.) to green in proportion to the alcohol content. Simple reagent in form of a stable liq., which is cheap and easy to prepare and may be readily impregnated onto supports to allow easy reading of results. The compsn. has little effect on plastics and may be distributed in plastic or plastic/glass test containers.
