Simultaneous hydrotreatment of an unsatd. C4 hydrocarbon fraction (I) and an unsatd. gasoline fraction (II) to hydrogenate butadiene in (I) and resin-forming hydrocarbons in (II) is carried out by contacting a mixt. of (I), (II) and a recycle stream (III) with H2 in the presence of a hydrogenated effluent into a C4 fraction and a gasoline fraction, and recycling part of the gasoline fraction. The ratio of (III) to (I)+(II) is 0.2-5:1. Recycling (III) inhibits hydrogenation of monoolefins, esp. butenes in (I), without the use of expensive coolants, and increases the catalyst life by avoiding recycle of butenes.
