The cutter uses a revolving disc (4) to cut stone blocks. The disc is incorporated in a machine head (1) mounted on the horizontal beam (2) of a portal frame. The frame posts (3a,3b) have substantial bases (6a,6b) which are mounted slidably on rails (5), and one or both posts may locate a motor (7a,7b) which is used to effect the propulsion of the portal frame along the rails. The rails (5) are fixed to the horizontal surface of a cutting table. The arrangement allows the cutter (1) to clear selected table areas whilst conveyors place or remove stone blocks.
