Power supply of an explosion- proof diesel locomotive

The invention provides an improved power supply system for the principal power transmission and ancillary plants as well as the controlling, monitoring, protecting and signalling units (9, 10, 11, 12) of an explosion-proof diesel locomotive. The power supply system consists exclusively of mechanical (5) hydraulic (6) and pneumatic (4, 8) power-transmitting elements and has no electrical power-transmitting elements. The pneumatic elements are powered from an air reservoir (8) replenished by an air compressor (4) only when outside an explosion danger zone. The system requires no central energy accumulator, the prescribed compulsory position indicating and lighting lamps are completely explosion-proof lamp-units which have their own internal, discrete exchangeable or rechargeable batteries. The design of the locomotive renders it unlikely to initiate an explosion during travel through an environment which is liable to explosions. IMAGE
