LIQUID AMOUNT DETECTOR FOR VERTICAL FUEL TANK

PURPOSE:To detect liquid amount highly accurately by changing the resistance value per unit length of the resistance wire installed in a pipe in correspondence to the sectional area of a tank. CONSTITUTION:A liquid amount detector 11 is provided in the recess 3 of the bottom part in a tank 1 having the recess 3 in the bottom part 2, a projecting part 4 on the side face and a notched part 5. The detector 11 has an upper chamber 15 partitioned by a diaphragm 13 and filled with conductive liquid 28, and a lower chamber 14 filled fully with a fuel through a small hole 17. A resistance wire 20 which is supported by an insulating member 22 and of which the resistance value per unit length changes in corresponding to the sectional area of the tank is stretched in the pipe 16. Hence, the change in the liquid level of the fuel tank is transmitted to the diaphgram which in turn changes the conductive liquid 28 in the pipe 16 so that the resistance value of the resistance wire 20 on the outside of the conductive liquid 28 changes in correspondence to the liquid level of the fuel tank; therefore, if the resistance of this resistance value 20 is measured, the liquid amount is measured.
