CONTROL METHOD FOR ACID BASICITY OF SOLUTION BY LIGHT IRRADIATION

PURPOSE:To make it possible to adjust the pH of a solution finely and reversibly by irradiating with light a solution which contains a spiro-pyrane compound to be light-isomerized and a high molecular compound including an acid-base or basic radical. CONSTITUTION:Through the independent polymerization of a spiro-pyrane compound including an acid-base or basic radical to a high molecular compound such as a benzospyro-syrane derivative or through the copolymerization of the spiro- pyrane compound and another proper monomer, the spiro-pyrane compound causing light-isomerization is included in the principal chain or side chain. Then, the high molecular compound is contained in a solution, which is irradiated with light to change the acid basicity of the solution. Consequently, this simple method provides the fine and reversible adjustment of the pH of the solution.
