ESTIMATING METHOD FOR REMAINING THICKNESS OF BRICK IN BLAST FURNACE HEARTH BOTTOM

PURPOSE:To estimate the remaining thickness of brick in the hearth bottom of a blast furnace, by measuring the rate of temp. rise in the hearth bottom by discontinuing the feed of coolant for the hearth. CONSTITUTION:When the charge of a coolant for hearth bottom is discontinued temporarily, the rate of temp. rise due to heat regeneration depends upon the remaining thickness of brick in the hearth bottom. Therefore the remaining thickness of brick can be estimated by determining the relation between the remaining thickness of brick and the rate of the temp. rise. For example, a characteristic curve P is obtained by plotting the rate of temp. rise ( deg.C/hr), measured by a thermocouple thermometer when the feed of the coolant for the hearth is discontinued, in relation to respective remaining thickness of brick, e.g., 1.0m, 1.5m, 2.0m, 2.5m, 3.0m. Hereby, the remaining thickness of brick corresponding to the position where the thermocouple thermometer is buried can be estimated using the characteristic curve P.
