MATERIAL FOR TREATING WASTE WATER CONTAINING EMULSIFIED OIL

PURPOSE:To prepare the titled treating material suitable for the treatment of waste water containing floating oil, etc., especially containing emulsified oil, by adding an absorbent for surface active agents to a composition obtained by mixing, crosslinking, and crushing a polymer and an inorganic filler in the presence of a crosslinking agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective treating material is prepared by mixing, preventing the further pulverization of the components, (A) a composition obtained by mixing (a) 100pts.wt. of a crosslinkable polymer such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and (b) 5-250pts.wt. of an oil-absorbing inorganic filler such as MgO, in the presence of a crosslinking agent such as dicumyl peroxide, with an extruder, and crosslinking and crushing the mixture, and (B) 10-900pts.wt., based on 100pts.wt. of the component (A), of an absorbent insoluble in water and oils and capable of absorbing a surface active agents (pref. the bulk density of the (B) component is =5 times that of (A); preferable examples of (B) are granular activated charcoal, ion exchange resin, etc.).
