PURPOSE:To provide an austenitic stainless steel with a low recrystallization temperature and an excellent corrosion resistance, by controlling the Cr, Ni, Mo contents of the steel within appropriate ranges respectively. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic stainless steel is composed of 13-17wt% of Cr, 13- 17wt% of Ni, 0.3-2.0wt% of Mo, 0.05wt% or less of C, 2wt% or less of Mn, 2wt% or less of Si, 0.1wt% or less of N, 0.06wt% or less of S and the rest of Fe and unavoidable impurities. The steel is caused to contain 3% or less of Cu if necessary. After the steel is produced by melting, it undergoes treatment such as hot rolling, cold rolling, solid solution annealing, etc. For example, the steel is used as a clad material for a gold alloy and a silver alloy. The Cr, Ni and Mo contents of the stainless steel are limited to lower its recrystallization temperature and improve its corrosion resistance. Therefore, the steel is appropriate as a material used in corrosive environment.
