The discharge mechanism is for a hopper containing material in bulk, comprising two grids moving in relation to each other. One grid is double, comprising two parallel portions spaced apart (21,22) and built up of horizontal components (13,15) spaced apart at regular intervals (14,16), those of the first portion being offset from those in the second for half the pitch (C). The distance between the portions (D), and the pitch of the components, are such that the material passing through the openings in the first portion can lie on the components of the second. A second grid (18) works between the two portions of the first, having components (17) at right angles to theirs and of the same pitch.
