The arrangement is intended for the anaerobic fermentation of liquid stable manure (A) or the like. It uses a tank containing a, preferably concentric, inner container (2) which extends upwards from the tank bottom (11) and has its upwardly open end (12) a short distance (S) below the level (3) of the tank contents. The material is introduced (4,5) near the bottom into the container (2) and its fermentation causes overflow (B) into the surrounding annular space (6). Final fermentation separates a sediment (D) from waste water (W) which is discharged (14) approximately at the level of the container rim (12). The sediment (D) is separately removed (13) and the developed gas (G) collects in the top cowl (9) of the tank which is connected to a gas outlet (10). Used in anaerobic fermentation of fermentable organic matter in water-rich waste.
