Device for the assembly or dismantling of hollow axle elements or bolts in submersed swivel joints of offshore drilling and/or production platforms consists of a horizontal buoyant cylinder, subdivided into several chambers, each with its own submersible pump. The face of the device has hooks to fix it to rings on the platforms. The other end carries a hydraulic or pneumatic drive for reciprocating a spacer with the axle element inside a central bore. An array of screw propellers is used to move the device forward, back and sideways. Cables and hoses supply the energy from a mother ship. This facilitates the erection of such platforms where heavy axle elements have to be inserted or extracted below water.
