Prevention or redn. of loss of seeds or seed-bearing bodies from plants comprises applying, not more than 15 days before the crop is ready for harvest, a coating or layering substance (I). The treatment prevents detachment of seeds or seed-bearing bodies or controls the splitting of pods or other seed-bearing bodies.. Loss of seeds, esp. from leguminous plants, such as oilseed rape, peas and beans, is reduced, and this is esp. valuable with mechanical harvesting, when pods have a strong tendency to split just before or during harvesting. This leads to longer ripening periods being possible, with consequent economies.
