Apparatus is provided for setting down a transportable winter service sprinkler (12) according to choice either on the load platform (2) of a lorry (1), which is tippable about a rear horizontal tipping axis (7), or on the ground, in which two forward support legs (33) are arranged laterally and two rear support legs (52), which remain outside the load platform (2), are arranged on a carrier frame (15) of the winter service sprinkler (12). The support legs (33, 52) are telescopically lengthenable or shortenable, that is to say lowerable to the ground and raisable from the ground. The forward support legs (33) are also each pivotable about a vertical axis out of a position lying above the load platform (2) into a position lying outside this platform. In order that the hydraulic tipping apparatus of the lorry (1) may be used in the loading and unloading of the winter service sprinkler (12), the rear support legs (52) are shorter than the height of the load platform (2) and secured each to longitudinal members (17) of the carrier frame (15) which protrude to the rear beyond the rear edge of the load platform (2).
