1493707 Vehicle battery charging systems DUCELLIER & CIE 12 Feb 1975 [15 Feb 1974] 5887/75 Heading H2H Battery charging system of a motor vehicle comprises an alternator and an indicator light, the indicator light being controlled by a first transistor which is itself controlled by means of a second transistor controlled by the output of the alternator. An alternator 1, 2, 3 of a motor vehicle is arranged to charge a battery 12 by way of a full wave rectifier 5-10, the output of the alternator being controlled by a regulator 15 which acts on the alternator field winding 16. With a stationary alternator closure of an ignition switch 14 causes an indicator light 17 to be illuminated since, with no potential being developed across a potential divider 24, 25 the transistor 22 is non-conductive and the is delivering an output, the potential across the divider 24, 25 causes breakdown of a zener diode 23 which causes transistor 22 to conduct, transistor 19 thus being rendered non-conductive to extinguish the indicator light 17. The base-collector electrodes of transistor 22 are connected by way of a capacitor 29 to enhance the operation of the transistor. In a second embodiment the two transistors are arranged to be conductive or non-conductive simultaneously instead of alternately.
