Abstract of the DisclosureSynthetic compounds of the formula:-are disclosed wherein X is an integer of at least 0 and A andB each represent a divalent moiety of the formula:-wherein R1 and R5 are each selected from the residue ofan amino acid or a polypeptide; R2 representsthe residue of tryptophan or tyrosine; R3 representsthe residue of an amino acid; R4 representsthe residue of Iysine; arginine or histidine; a is aninteger of 0 to 4, inclusive; b and c are each integers of atleast 0: m is an integer of from 0 to 1, inclusive; and nis an integer of at least 1; provided that when R1 or R5 isthe residue of a polypeptide, the corresponding b or c is 1.The disclosure is also of intermediate compounds forpreparing the compounds of the above formula and derivativecompounds having biological activity.Disclosed also are pharmaceutical compositions whereinthe essential active ingredient is a synthetic compound ofthe invention and methods of using them for the prevention,suppression, treatment and diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
