ANGULAR COMPRESSION EXPANSION CYLINDER WITH RADIAL PISTONS.ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn angular cylinder piston combination for providingcompression and expansion chambers in a large number of items,such as compressors, pumps, internal and external combustionengines, hydrostatic generators, air motors, and the like, inwhich compression and expansion chambers are formed angularly,inside a cylindrical drum which rotates at substantially uniformvelocity "Wo". The chambers are formed between N outer radialpistons provided by the drum and N inner radial pistons attachedto an inner rotor which accelerates and decelerates from zerovelocity to a velocity "2wo" with respect to a stationaryhousing. A single port per chamber provides intake and exhaust asit comes in coincidence with slots, azimouthally cut on the baseof the stationary housing. The inner radial pistons, oscillatingwithin the angle subtended between the outer pistons, do notcross the ports; lubricating oil can then be permitted to runbetween a pair of sealing elements positioned along those edgesof the pistons which slide with respect to other members of thedevice. The application of this angular cylinder in the desing ofan improved Tri-Rotor device is demonstrated.
