ANTIARRHYTHMIC QUINUCLIDINE CARBOXYLIC ACID XYLIDIDEAND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME AND SIMILAR COMPOUNDSABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe invention relates to the compound 2-6-xylidideof quinuclidine-3-carboxylic acid and its pharmaceuticallyacceptable salts, such as the hydrochloride, which have beenfound to be effective antiarrhythmic agents. The inventionfurther relates to the production of this antiarrhythmiccompound which method is applicable also to the productionof related compounds which, however, do not have antiarrhythmicaction, e.g. the quinuclidine-2-carboxylic acid xylidides.The compounds are produced according to this method byreacting the quinuclidine carboxylic acid in anhydrouschloroform and oxalyl chloride with the dimethylaniline.The desired compound is produced in high yield with ahigh degree of purity.
