Abstract of the DisclosureA leather press in which two wedges are synchronously driven toraise a lower platen in the press from an open condition to a position adjacentan upper platen of the press. The lower platen is movably mounted on asupport. The support and the wedges are in slidable engagement with oneanother to effect a preliminary closing of the press. A plurality of pressurizablemembers such as hydraulic pancake cylinders may be mounted between themovable platen and the support so that the platens are secondarily urgedtogether by the application of hydraulic pressure, to apply the requiredworking pressure, to a leather workpiece disposed between the platens.The hydraulic pancake cylinders are arranged to be disposed over a broadarea of the lower platen to efficiently provide maximum pressure thereacross.
