PROCEDURE FOR THE BINDING OF BOOKS, MAGAZINES AND SIMILAR WITHOUT THE USAGE OF STAPLES OR SEWING

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA process for the binding of books, magazines and the likewithout the use of staples or sewing. The process comprises forminga plurality of spaced notched cuts along the central fold line ofeach page section to be bound. Each notched cut extends to one sideof the fold line to define a projection portion between the notchedcut and the central fold line. All the notched cuts are formed onthe same side of the fold line. Each page section is folded alongthe central fold line so that the projection portions project fromthe fold, nesting the page sections one within another with theprojection portions on an inner page section passing through theindentations formed by the notched cuts in each of the page sectionsoutwardly thereof so that the corresponding projection portions onadjacent page sections overlap. The overlapping projection portionsof adjacent page sections are then glued together. The process ofthe present invention avoids the requirement for metal staples orsewing with thread when binding books, magazines and similarproducts, and reduces significantly the labour involved inmanufacture.
