To locate potential way sublayers of formations hydrocarbon content or other abnormalities of the layers the inclination measuring devices (TITS) measure the time of arrival, direction and the apparent magnitude of an earth tide-induced the moon in a row of points on the surface of the earth. The measurements are combined to determine the shape of the tidal wave of interest in an area. The shape indicates the abnormal sub-layers in the region.
