The apparatus possesses a single overpressure chamber (4) containing guide rollers (11) or a plurality of such chambers (20, 21, 22) which are then arranged in succession in the web running direction and which are connected to one another in a pressure-tight manner. Each overpressure chamber is of curved design and consists of a wall forming the bottom (1) and the ceiling (2) and of two side walls (3). The chamber side walls (3) have a shape designed in the form of a sickle in the vertical plane. As a result, each overpressure chamber narrows from the middle towards its two ends, with a continuous reduction of its chamber cross-section, and forms necks (9, 10) there. The chamber ends on the inlet and outlet sides are closed by means of flanges (5, 6) which form the front and rear wall of the apparatus. Slits forming web inlet and outlet orifices perforate these flanges. Each flange (5, 6) is provided with a pressure lock (15, 16) making it possible to maintain overpressure in the overpressure chamber or overpressure chambers. The saving of a metal in the production of this apparatus can be 20 to 40 % in terms of the metal consumption in the production of similar conventional apparatuses. IMAGE
