Dimensioning beam deflector coils for colour TV tube - ensuring that distance between coil sections is greater in middle than at end sections

The deflector coils comprise half coil assemblies (21,22) which, in the form of saddles, fit over the colour tube (1) in the region where the tube walls begin to diverge. Coils are provided for horizontal and vertical deflection. The sections of the coils coaxial (2) with the axis (6) of the tube (1) are bowed outwards so that the gap (a) between coil sides in the centre is larger than the gap (b,c) at the ends of the cylindrical section of the tube. With this coil arrangement the convergence of the individual electron beams exhibits less diversity than with conventional coils. At least the vertical deflector coils should be arranged in the proposed manner, and preferably also the horizontal deflector coils. Acceptable results can be obtained by bowing only one side of each half coil.(DS).
