Dust and toxic vapours are removed from the waste gases of melting furnaces for the mfr. of inorganic composte materials, e.g. glass, enamel and ceramic frit, by loading the waste gases before filtration with glass raw materials, free from boron and fluorine, of 100-250 mu particle size. During filtration, the particles deposited on the filter bags are cleaned off in regular intervals and recycled into the melting furnace. This prevents clogging of the filter bag by the very fine dust particles, resulting in high pressure loss and power consumption. Sepn. efficiencies of up to 98% are achieved.
