The sledge is fitted with two toothed drive wheels (10) set under the rear and with each wheel having no teeth on a third of its circumference. The wheels are linked to reciprocating arm levers (4) by means of which the rider can operate the drive to start the sledge. The toothed wheels can be set with the toothless section over the ground to allow unimpeded downhill runs. If the levers are operated separately, then the relevant toothed wheel is brought to the ground for steering control. The sledge can also be used to start downhill runs on grass, in summer.
