Formaldehyde evolution from aminoplast foams is reduced by treating the finished foam surface with a non-volatile HCHO-bonding agent (I). (I) is pref. an aq. urea soln. or a salt of a S acid esp. an aq. mixt. of urea, NH3, ammonium sulphite and a water contg. or drawing agent. In an example, a urea-HCHO soln. prepd. from urea-HCHO resin soln. urea and water, was beaten with Na dibutylnaphthalene sulphonate, resorcinol, phosphoric acid and water were beaten into to form a foam which was moulded into test pieces.
